ENG Repositioning Buginese Women as Shamans: A Gender Communication Perspective in South Sulawesi

Abstrak

Studi ini menyelidiki peran gender yang berkembang dalam komunitas Bugis di Sulawesi Selatan, dengan fokus pada dukun, yang dikenal sebagai sandro, yang merupakan bagian integral dalam penyembuhan, bimbingan spiritual, dan ritual komunitas. Secara historis didominasi oleh pria, peran sandro telah dibentuk ulang oleh perubahan sosial terkini yang memungkinkan perempuan untuk mengambil alih peran yang secara tradisional dipegang oleh pria. Menggunakan kerangka komunikasi gender, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi bagaimana narasi budaya yang bergender mempengaruhi penerimaan, perlawanan, dan adaptasi perempuan sebagai dukun, serta menyoroti interaksi antara norma tradisional dan wacana gender kontemporer.


Studi ini mengadopsi perspektif feminis, memanfaatkan pendekatan fenomenologis dan Teori Sudut Pandang untuk mengkaji peran dukun pria dan wanita dalam pengambilan keputusan di dalam komunitas. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa dukun wanita semakin mengambil peran kepemimpinan, memikul tanggung jawab spiritual dan sosial yang signifikan, sementara dukun pria sering kali menempati posisi pendukung. Perubahan ini menunjukkan transformasi norma gender tradisional. Namun, studi ini juga mengidentifikasi adanya perlawanan terhadap peran dukun, yang sering kali berakar pada keyakinan agama yang menantang legitimasi praktik-praktik dukun.


Dengan mengkaji dinamika gender dalam tradisi dukun Bugis, penelitian ini meningkatkan pemahaman kita tentang hubungan antara gender, budaya, dan spiritualitas. Temuan ini menekankan perlunya mengatasi bias gender yang terus-menerus untuk mempromosikan kesetaraan dan inklusivitas yang lebih besar dalam praktik spiritual dan kehidupan komunitas, serta menekankan pentingnya pendekatan yang sensitif terhadap gender dalam pelestarian budaya dan kemajuan sosial.
